Return to Glory: ME Cabo White Party Reclaims its Mantle as the Premier Social Event in Los Cabos
A legend has been reborn, although to be fair, it never really went away. Its enchanting glamor and shimmering tropical luminescence simply dimmed for a moment, in deference to a once-in-a-generation hurricane and a subsequent rebranding effort.
“It,” of course, is the annual White Party, which for the better part of a decade has been the definitive expression of the upscale Los Cabos lifestyle: beautiful people sipping Champagne and showcasing elegant all-white wardrobes; backlit by designer décor and breathtaking natural surroundings; swaying rhythmically to a vibrant, insistent soundtrack courtesy of some of the world’s best DJs; enraptured by a magnificent midnight fireworks display over the glittering moonlit waters of Bahía Cabo San Lucas.
Think walking a red carpet is glamorous? Try descending a broad, spiraling Art Deco style staircase into an expansive outdoor patio area, where a dazzling white carpet bottlenecks briefly for local paparazzi to snap glamor shots before unfurling around an exquisitely appointed poolside nightclub overlooking the longest and most beautiful beach in Los Cabos.
Born on the Costa del Sol, in the blue-blood party milieu of Marbella, the White Party made its way to Los Cabos via Nikki Beach Club, which for years lent its haute couture, poolside party venue to the local smart set, as well as the hip scene makers who flew in from Los Angeles and Las Vegas for the nightclub’s signature rite of Spring. But the Nikki Beach era White Party wasn’t just the social event of the season, it was the social event of the year, a Gatsby level gala that merged the high fashion of a trunk show in Milan with the entertainment value of a 1970s era New York disco.
Hurricane Odile forever changed the local landscape when it made landfall in September 2014. Nikki Beach, damaged beyond repair, gave way in the rebirth to Blue Marlin Ibiza, yet another legendary beach party brand from the sun-drenched shores of Spain…this time from the island of Ibiza, which along with Mallorca and Menorca is part of the Balearic chain popular with summering European tourists.
The one constant in Los Cabos White Party lore has been ME Cabo, the Art Deco inspired masterpiece of a resort that overlooks Médano Beach. ME Cabo’s unique amenities and stylish services have inspired such loyalty among its young, moneyed clientele, that even with an 18-month hiatus post-Odile for major repairs and renovations, the property scarcely skipped a beat. Blue Marlin Ibiza has already proven in its brief lifetime that it cedes nothing in the way of barefoot cachet or bikini chic to Nikki Beach, and the club completely owned its new space as the White Party staged a triumphant comeback in 2016.
Spoiler Alert! That comeback was merely prelude to a complete return to swank, swaggering glory in 2017, as you’ll see in this spectacular new video from CaboViVO.
