Cinco de Mayo

Event Details

May 5th:  Although sometimes confused by gringos with Mexican Independence Day (which is on September 16), Cinco de Mayo actually remembers the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, when the Mexican Army triumphed over interventionist French forces. Ironically, this holiday is more popular in the U.S., where it has evolved as a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage. But Cinco de Mayo is observed each year in Mexico as well, albeit with little fanfare outside of Puebla. In Los Cabos, Cinco de Mayo is primarily a bar and restaurant holiday, and an excellent excuse to enjoy traditional Mexican food and drink (as if one were ever needed!).
