Fiestas Patronales in Cabo San Lucas

Event Details

October 17 to 22 – Cabo San Lucas was named by Spanish sailor Francisco de Bolaños on October 18, 1541, according to the Catholic custom of the time, in which new discoveries were designated for the appropriate saint’s day in the church calendar. The remembrance of patron saints is thus cause for civic holidays in many towns and cities throughout the Latin world (where they are called fiestas patronales). Among these cities is San José del Cabo, where festivities honoring St. Joseph last for a week or more each March, and range from live music and regional feasts to parades, fireworks and the coronation of an event queen. Cabo San Lucas follows a similar script, scheduling six days of celebration in 2017, the highlights of which are expected to be the crowning of a queen, and a large parade down Marina Boulevard on October 18, with lively atmosphere, and both children and adults costumed in colorful finery.
